I first discovered yoga while attending University. After suffering a series of concussions, returning to contact sports was no longer and option for me. When I started practicing regularly, I discovered yoga offered a new physical challenge and started to see amazing benefits for both my body and mind. I began to strengthen weaker muscle groups, elongate bigger, tighter muscles and discovered a newfound ability to relax and calm my mind.
After completing my degrees in Kinesiology & Psychology, I began working in injury rehabilitation where I worked with individuals with chronic pain, amputations, and psychological stress disorders. After incorporating yoga into the daily exercise programs, I immediately recognized the advantages yoga could have for other individuals. During this time, I completed my 200hr yoga teacher training at Alberta Yoga College in 2013 and began teaching yoga in a clinical setting.
In addition to using yoga for rehabilitation purposes, I have seen it benefit high performance athletes. In October 2014, I completed my JOGA teaching training, a program now being implemented with athletes in the NHL, CFL, and MLB.
My classes are a combination of both static and dynamic yoga poses with essential core stabilizing exercises to assist in maintaining full body balance and improving agility. I focus on tight muscle groups to assist in promotion corrective postures (perfect for any body that sits at a desk all day). This fusion of movements will encourage flexibility while enhancing overall body strength while allowing muscles to relax. You will definitely learn how to recruit your transverse abdominals (“TAs”) in my class!
