Calgary Pools: An Adult-Only Heated Pool at the Riverside Club

    By The Riverside Club | Healthy Habits | 0 comment | 14 August, 2025 | 0

As summer winds down and cooler days set in, many Calgarians start looking for indoor activities to keep fit and active. Swimming is a favorite year-round option, but there’s one big challenge: Calgary pools are often crowded with families and young children taking swimming lessons. For adults who want a quieter, more private place to swim, it can feel like the options are limited.

At the Riverside Club, our adult-only fitness centre offers members and guests access to a serene heated saltwater pool in a calm, comfortable environment. No distractions, no noise, no kids! Keep reading to learn more about one of the few adult-only heated saltwater Calgary pools.

    About Our Club Amenities

Our adult-only heated saltwater pool is maintained at a comfortable 30°C, making it ideal for both fitness and relaxation. For those looking to learn or improve their technique, a professional swim instructor is available for private lessons.

After a swim, guests can enjoy full access to our amenities that are included in membership or drop-in fees:

    • Fitness area
    • Drop-in group fitness classes
    • Locker rooms
    • Showers
    • Steam rooms
    • Hot tub

The co-ed fitness centre and women’s wellness area are equipped with state-of-the-art cardio and weightlifting equipment, while two indoor tennis courts provide a year-round space for sport. As an adult-only facility (18+), The Riverside Club is dedicated to creating a professional and comfortable environment for members.

Please note that there is no lifeguard on duty.

The Benefits of a Heated Saltwater Pool

A heated saltwater pool offers quite a few benefits both for health and overall swimming experience. Here are the main ones:

    • Gentle on Skin and Eyes – Saltwater is softer than traditional chlorine pools, reducing irritation, redness, and dryness. Many people with sensitive skin find saltwater pools more comfortable.
    • Lower Chlorine Exposure – Saltwater pools generate chlorine naturally from salt, so they often have lower harsh chemical levels. This means less chemical smell, fewer rashes, and a more natural swimming experience.
    • Therapeutic and Relaxing – The warmth of a heated pool relaxes muscles, eases joint pain, and improves circulation. Saltwater has a mild buoyancy effect that adds to stress relief and relaxation.
    • Better for Fitness and Recovery – Heated water helps loosen stiff muscles, making workouts easier and recovery faster. Aqua fitness or swimming in warm water reduces joint impact compared to land-based exercises.
    • Extended Swimming Season – Heated pools allow year-round use, no matter the weather. Perfect for our colder climate where outdoor Calgary pools aren’t practical most of the year.
    • Lower Maintenance – Saltwater systems tend to regulate chlorine automatically, meaning fewer manual chemical adjustments. The water usually stays clearer and fresher for longer.

    The Benefits of Swimming

Swimming isn’t just a relaxing or leisure activity, it’s an incredibly effective component of a cardio and overall fitness routine. Because water provides natural resistance, every stroke requires more effort than moving through air, which engages multiple muscle groups at once. This makes swimming a full-body workout that builds both strength and endurance.

    • Low-impact exercise – Swimming reduces stress on joints, making it ideal for those with arthritis or mobility concerns.
    • Full-body conditioning – Every stroke engages multiple muscle groups, improving strength, endurance, and flexibility.
    • Cardiovascular health – Swimming is an excellent way to increase heart rate and circulation while building lung capacity.
    • Stress relief – Being in water has a calming effect on the mind, helping to reduce stress and improve mental wellbeing.
    • Weight management – Swimming burns calories efficiently, supporting healthy weight management and overall fitness.
    • Recovery and Flexibility: Swimming helps lengthen muscles and promote blood flow, making it a perfect complement to other forms of exercise like weightlifting, running, or yoga.
